BREEAM: HealthcareXB
Sustainability and the environmental performance of NHS buildings are increasingly a priority not only for new developments but also for existing buildings in operation.
This new tool complements BREEAM Healthcare which can be used for new and major refurbishment projects, BREEAM Healthcare XB offers a solution for existing buildings in operation.
Developed by BRE Global on behalf of the Department of Health this new scheme helps NHS Trusts and other healthcare organisations to:
- improve efficiency of their existing building portfolio
- improve the indoor environment of their occupied buildings, with the result of increasing staff and patients' wellbeing
- reduce energy waste and, consequently, reduce utility bills
- demonstrate commitment to sustainable development.
BREEAM Healthcare XB is a credits based, self-assessment tool that substitutes and improves on the NHS Environmental Assessment Tool (NEAT) for existing sites. Although this is a self assessment tool; certification can be sought only when a licensed BREEAM Healthcare assessor has been appointed to carry out a formal assessment and produce a BRE Global-compliant report.
Annual membership to this programme will offer NHS Trusts and other healthcare organisations the opportunity to use the tool with the choice of different packages of additional support services including:
- Comprehensive supporting guidance
- BREEAM customer service for troubleshooting and technical enquiries
- Ad hoc training, aimed specifically at BREEAM Healthcare XB users
- Exclusive access to newsletters and updates.
