BREEAM Schools helps schools and LEAs to set environmental targets for new and refurbished school buildings. It also serves as a useful tool for designers by demonstrating the environmental performance of their designs.
Assessments can be carried out at the design stage and verified post construction for primary and secondary schools including the following:
- New Schools
- Major refurbishment projects
- Extensions
If you would like to learn more about how BREEAM Schools works and what specific issues it takes into account you can download a full copy of the BREEAM Schools manual from the Extranet for the BREEAM Schools Manual.
BRE run training courses for assessors and awareness raising seminars. See below for more information.
The development of BREEAM Schools was driven by the sustainable development action plan, which called for both new build and refurbishment projects to achieve no less than a BREEAM ‘VERY GOOD’ rating.
